Oleg Vorontsov was born in the city of Lvov, Ukraine, on October 1, 1962. In1984 he graduated with honors from the International Relations and International Economy Department at Kiev State University, majoring in International Economic Relations. In 1987 he successfully defended his post-graduated work and obtained the PhD degree from the Institute of Social and Economic Problems of Foreign Countries within The Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (AN USSR). From 1987 through 1990 he lived and worked in Moscow, Russia. He was invited to deliver a course of lectures on Economics in Ireland, Finland and the USA. Since 1990 Mr Vorontsov has been living in the city of Madrid, Spain. He has a proficient command of seven foreign languages.
His primary business activities are related to the Olympics and sports marketing.
Mr Vorontsov is a member of the International Society of Olympic Historians and he is the President of European Olympic Memorabilia Collectors' Society. From 1993 through 2001 he was a commission member of the International Olympic Committee ("IOC"). He is the author of a number of publications on Economics and the Olympic History.
Mr Vorontsov took part in 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004 Summer Olympic Games and the 1992, 1994, 1998, and 2002 Winter Olympic Games. From 1996 through 2006 he initiated a number of marketing programs on behalf of the Olympic Committees for the Republics of Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
Since 1972 he has been collecting Olympic Games memorabilia, and is considered as one of the world's most important Olympic collectors. The main parts of his vast collection are as follows: winner's and commemorative medals, winner's and commemorative diplomas, Olympic torches, pins and badges, uniforms, different types of accreditations, armbands, books and regulations, all types of souvenirs, photos and posters. He was on of those who assisted in the creation of the International Olympic Committee's Commission for the Olympic Collectors, and has been an active member since inception (1993) through 2001. Since 1995 he has been a member of the International Society of Olympic Historians.
Mr Vorontsov is the author of a number of books and other publications on Economics, the history of the Olympic Movement and on Olympic memorabilia collecting.
He is the third-prize (bronze medal) winner of the "Olympphilex-92" Exhibition in Barcelona, and also holds such honorary awards as the Medal of Honor at the Budapest Olympic Movement Exhibition (1995), the Silver Medal at the "Olympphilex-96" Exhibition in Atlanta and the Medal of Honor at the "Olympphilex-2002" in Salt Lake City.
His hobbies include poetry, classical music, pictorial art and sports.
In 2004, he published a book of his poems entitled "The Lagoon."
From November 2006 through June 2008 Oleg was a prisoner in a Spanish jail on false charges.
While staying in solitary confinement, Oleg wrote two novels as well as a new book of poems which have not yet been published. During those 18 months he also tried himself writing short stories and theatre play. We plan to publish excerpts of his new books in the "Poetry", "Prose" sections.
